- Dec 2011 - HAND WARMERS

I have a couple of these hand warmers, and I keep getting asked, " where do I buy them"
They are fuelled by lighter fuel, and one filling lasts all day.

The most famous one is a 'Zippo' from Amazon at £16 or Ebay at £14.50

These are like mine - 'Firefly' from Ebay (simon_2828) at £19 for two

Named 'Peacock' from Ebay (biz2808) at £9

They use standard lighter fuel (would this make them less heavy ?)

- July 2011 - End of year social event (29th October)

When John Bunting first suggested this event, there was enough support shown to make it viable.
Now the tickets have been printed and all the arangements made for venue, catering etc.
only 20 or so people have shown interest.
This is not enough support to make for a cosy gathering, so we have had to cancel.
John will refund anyone who has purchased a ticket.
We are sorry for any inconvenience.

-Mid June 2011 - Cabin Logo

New logos have been fitted to each side of our cabin. These are of course, replicas of the web site heading logo.

-Mid April 2011 - Cabin inner wall
An inner wall has been built to reinforce the cabin,
& provide support for a shelf for minor items.

Apart from two committee personnel, we could only
recruit three club members to help (from a total of 150)
Members were asked, & they flatly refused
The average age of this working group was 70

These were - Geoff & Terry from the committee plus
Don McWalter, Dennis Cleobury & Mick Tonkinson

Club member, Mick Richardson arranged with Stocks Bros
to supply the 2 packs of blocks required for the job.
These were kindly donated (free of charge)
by Stocks Bros. (Tel. 0113 232 0022)

-1st April 2011 - Web site re-vamped

The web site has been simplified, using less pages.
This makes it easier for 'Google' to find sections of our site.
We have also included a new page - 'TRAINING'

1st January 2011- New rules for 'A' and 'B' Certs.

BMFA Achievement Scheme changes for 2011

In all disciplines the A cert must now be passed before the B cert.

Flybar replacement systems are now allowed for Helicopter tests, however the extra electronics
must only be working to replace the mechanical flybar and not take over control of the helicopter.

The options to do a spiral dive and Split S instead of a three turn spin and outside loop
have been removed from the Fixed Wing Power B test.

Candidates must stand in the designated pilots box/area for the entirety of the test flight for fixed wing power tests,
candidates are no longer allowed to walk out on the active flying area to stand behind the model to take off.

-December 2010 - Caution Signs

Four new "Caution" signs have been erected at the councils request.
These have been placed at strategic positions on 'favourite walking routes'.

October 2010 - Access to Cabin

The cabin is now accessible to all Club Members to keep dry if it should rain.
A few chairs have been deposited/abandoned in the cabin - please feel free to use these if you have left yours at home.
The BBQ is also available to use.

Your gate key will open the cabin - please snap the lock back on to the door. This will help to stop pranksters from locking the door whilst you are inside.
Please also ensure that the cabin is locked shut at the end of each flying session. (Note: The lock should be fitted UNDER the protective cover and not on one of the door locking handles)

September 2010 - Logo competition

At the August club night, it was suggested that we run a competition to find a club logo that
we could make into a sticker, or print on to your club shirt.

Well this is the first suggestion - by Brian Robinson

10th May 2010 - New site work

By Terry Lee

On Wednesday 10th May the contractors returned to complete the work
First they turned the cabin the 'right way round' - with the door facing the flying area.
Next they increased the size of the car park to four times the original size, levelled & rolled it.
Finally the access road to the helicopter site (& the road to the septic tank) was re-surfaced & rolled
to eliminate the boggy (in winter) bits.

21st April 2010 - Installing Cabin

By Terry Lee

On Wednesday morning 21st april a team of contractors moved on to our site to begin improvements.
First the hardcore, that had been in place for some time, was spread out & levelled.
Next it was rolled, getting rid of all the lumps, giving us a smooth surface.
As can be seen from the third picture, the car park is now considerably larger.
Last picture shows new cabin in place.

19th December 2009 - Erecting speed limit signs

On a cold wintery day (19th December to be precise), three intrepid committee members ventured to the park to erect the speed limit signs, as requested by the council. Shaun, Mick & Terry can be seen digging the holes, concreting the posts, & then fitting the signs. Speed cameras will be in place soon!

12th May 2009 - Flying strip rolling -
Having being given permission by the council,
the club hired a vibrating roller to flatten the minor bumps on the strip.
Four club members:- Bill Winstanley, Stuart Edley, Carl Robinson & Terry Lee
trudged up & down from 9.00am to 4.00pm on Tuesday 12th May.
The larger 'waves' will need to be filled by the council for further improvements.
Bill winds the handle
to start the engine

19th March 2009 - Happy Birthday Pandas --

Pandas club is 35 years old - first meeting was on 19th March 1974

January 2009 -Flying strip-

The new flying strip is now ready for use.
It still needs more work, & the council promised to do this during the coming year.
